Too many miles
When do you throw out the old and bring in the new?
Don’t go and get too heavy on me. I’m talking about my running shoes. Once upon a time friends of mine would poke fun at my “running shoes”. And rightfully so probably considering I was attempting to run long distances in my day to day Adidas with the laces untied. I’ve always hated tying my shoes so I make it so I don’t have to. However, apparently it’s not the way you should run if you plan on being successful at it.
So then I did it. I went to the local running store in the area and they did all the things. I ran on a treadmill, they measured my feet, and told me what I should ideally be running in. The sales gentleman came out a few minutes later and only had 1 shoe. The Brooks Running Ghost edition was what he was recommending I run in. I was sold, hook line and sinker. Paid more than I ever thought I would for what was not exactly the most appealing to look at shoe. But y’all, I ran in them that afternoon and I immediately text the friends I knew would appreciate it and told them that all along they were right.
THE RIGHT SHOE CAN CHANGE EVERYTHING FOR A RUNNER
The right shoe can be life changing in my experience. It dramatically impacted my entire body when running. Those shin splints I never had before, the knee issues I developed with age, the weak ankles I can’t seem to strengthen, and the pain in my back I definitely developed from dental assisting but certainly feel when running, all seemed less with “the right” shoe. Moving on though because this post isn’t even about new shoes. It's about when you should cash in the old.?
Welcome to the struggle bus y’all. I’m about 99% positive I’m due for new running shoes. They say running shoes should be good for 600 miles or so and as someone who runs routinely, I’m well beyond that. I’m quite certain that my body is beginning to feel all those old feelings of OLD LADINESS in the form of knee aches once again. Question is, what do you do? Get a new pair of the same, because most runners would recommend sticking with a shoe once you know it works? Research and try something new based on reviews, fellow blogger recs etc? I’m tempted to try something new but gosh they’re such a commitment. I’ve got my eye on a few pair and can’t seem to pull the trigger on a new pair?
