mantel refresh
I generally get these random interior ideas, ones that Kyle generally thinks are a little out of the box. I’ve spent months staring at this fireplace and trying to figure out what color to paint it. When we unexpectedly built a house a couple years ago I didn’t put a lot of thought into how I would want the fireplace. We went with the traditional, kind of boring in my opinion, traditional stucco look. I figured at some point I would want to do something with it and this kept us from breaking the bank. Well with the stucco came a really awesome shade of beige/yellow. Changed it quickly to this greyish blue color on the left. And although I’ve enjoyed it for a couple years, the color has just simply outstayed its welcome. Well the second coat goes TOOOOOOO. BEHR Marquee BLACK .
We needed a fresh vibe on a budget.
We got a few of the painting essentials from Home Depot linked above and were off. If there’s one thing I loathe its taping in preparation for painting. Kyle usually does this step for me. I mean it y’all, I hate doing it. I only got a half gallon of paint to start. Black definitely does not require as many paint layers as lighter colors would require. I won’t lie and say I wasn’t a little nervous slapping black MATTE paint on our fire place. Something about it seemed so official. lol If there was a challenge for this slightly OCD brain, getting the paint roller lines all the same way without being able to tell was slightly tricky. But let’s be serious, there are things far more important. #perspective The outcome after about 2 hours with a little black paint….
This space and mantel are always very challenging when it comes time to decorate. We enjoy a lot of live television and with the TV above the fireplace it limits the amount of space I have to work with on the actual mantel. Everything decorative has to stay in the short realm. I generally use greenery, books, and candles but I”m thinking the black will allow me the versatility to switch it up when the seasons change… or just my “CRAZY” interior thoughts. lol I went and linked some of my favorite home decor items on my LiketoKnow.it page for y’all.
